About

The photograph above shows the club's original location in Alcester Lane end, Kings Heath, circa 1900

History

The club was founded in 1891. The first president of the club was the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Sir Austen Chamberlain (son of the industrialist and MP Joseph and step-brother of Prime Minister Neville). The club originally played on a green adjacent to the King's Head, in Alcester Lanes End, Kings Heath.

In 1972, Mitchell & Butlers (M&B, later Bass Charrington) took back the green for use as a car park. During the 1973 season, the club used other venues whilst negotiations took place with the brewery regarding the provision of an alternative venue.

The Bull's Head (The Bull) site already had a green, which had previously been the home venue for the Kings Norton Bowls Club. They moved to new premises in Wychall Lane and vacated the site in the late 1960s. The brewery set about re-establishing a crown green playing surface and refurbishing the pavilion. KHBC moved to the Bull's Head at Kings Norton in 1973, playing the first matches there in 1974.

Marston's brewery, who had taken over the site from M&B, declined to renew the lease and the club closed in September 2022.
